What is a grab lorry?

A grab lorry is a vehicle that can pick up and clear large amounts of waste directly from a site, using a hydraulic arm attached to the back.

What is grab hire used for?

Grab hire is typically used for clearing large, commercial construction projects. While it is true that we do carry out lots of our work on construction sites, we also clear waste from residential projects too!  

Grab hire is particularly useful in situations where a skip is not practical, for instance if there is no room to keep one outside your house. Our grab lorries can collect waste from hard to reach places, such as over walls/fences in gardens etc, via a mechanically operated hydraulic arm.

What types of waste can a grab lorry collect?  

Grab lorries are versatile, they can collect lots of different types of waste. Some of the more common types of waste we remove are:

How much weight can a grab hire lorry hold?

Our 8 wheel grab hire vehicles can carry up to 16 tonnes of waste in one go!

This is one of the greatest benefits to grab hire – a huge amount of waste can be cleared in one trip, making it a quick and easy process. The best bit is, our lorries do all the hard work for you!

How far can a grab arm reach?

At full extension, the hydraulic grab arms can reach up to 8m away from our lorry. This is very convenient for situations when there is no room to park the lorry directly next to the waste.

Where is the best place to leave my waste for collection?

This is a question we are commonly asked because, unlike with a skip, it is up to you where you pile your waste for it to be collected.

We recommend that for ease and efficiency during collection, that you put your waste in a relatively open space, that will be accessible for our lorries. Ideally, place it away from low hanging wires or branches so that these won’t obstruct the hydraulic arm. If you have any concerns with this, please let us know and a friendly member of our team will be able to offer you advice.
